Pickup concept, $20,000 mini-SUV VF 3 and e-bike – all are being presented at CES

Before Vinfast’s second attempt, the bigger one three-row VF 9has even gone on sale, the Vietnam-based automaker is already focusing on a flood of future vehicles and concepts.

Vinfast unveiled a trio of future and potential products at CES in Las Vegas this week, including an electric pickup truck concept, a stylish electric bike and a truly small electric SUV.

There is currently nothing comparable on the market for all three of these models. Maybe it’s better to build a complete brand than rely on it Not ready for prime time electric crossover VF 8 That has arrived to compete with a strong group of rivals from Tesla and older automakers.

VF Wild: Tacoma-sized but electrifying

The company describes the VF Wild concept as a “first attempt at a pickup truck” aimed at the company’s broader product range.

The VF Wild was developed in Australia as a joint effort between Vinfast and Australian design studio GoMotiv. The design features a “Fluid Dynamics” aesthetic, which Vinfast says is “inspired by the fluid movement of a superhero’s cape in the wind.”

By American standards, the VF Wild is neither a compact truck nor a full-size truck, and it comes closest Toyota TacomaFord Ranger, or now mothballed Lordstown Endurance. Its total length is 209 inches and width is 79 inches.

A power-folding Midgate system allows the rear seats to fold automatically, essentially extending the usable bed length from 5 feet to 8 feet – which Vinfast says would be the largest bed in its segment. The cabin features a panoramic glass roof and a different layout and appearance than the brand’s crossovers.

Vinfast hasn’t revealed many details about the truck’s powertrain or performance, nor has it said that the truck will make it into production. However, based on the openness with which the company showcased the functional interior and center hatch, as well as Vinfast’s optimistic approach and the pickups’ popularity in America, this seems likely.

Is there a market for a $20,000 electric SUV?

If you subtract the VF Wild’s five-foot cargo area from its length, you still end up with a longer vehicle than the tiny VF 3 electric SUV also shown at CES.

The VF 3 actually celebrated in Vietnam six months ago, but the CES debut marks the start of the model’s global market launch. Tiny by American standards, it’s roughly similar in size to the Suzuki Jimmy – the descendant of the original Suzuki Samurai – and it measures just 126 inches long, 66 inches wide and 64 inches high.

The company has not yet confirmed whether the VF 3 will ship to the US, but hinted that it could depend on safety regulations and performance. If it is offered in the US, executives have hinted at a starting price of under $20,000. The company will begin accepting reservations for this model in 2024, but notes that arrival timing, pricing and more have yet to be announced.

The VF 3 is a two-door four-seater with folding rear seats and a minimalist interior. The rear seats fold down to expand cargo capacity to 19.4 cubic feet. A 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The company gives a target estimate of more than 125 miles of range with a small lithium-ion battery, but the size is not yet disclosed.

Data-connected e-bike in vintage style

Vinfast’s third mode of transport on display, an electric bike called Drgnfly, was designed by Danish design studio Eskild Hansen. Designed to combine vintage influences from the “golden era of motorcycles” with a commitment to sustainability, it features an elongated, V-shaped frame reminiscent of a dragon. The battery is integrated into the frame and enables a range of up to 100 km. It is complemented by a 750-watt motor that enables speeds of up to 45 km/h.

Inspired as a lifestyle model and not as basic mobility – in the same school as that Honda Motocompacto, perhaps – the Drgnfly will have its own built-in 4G data connection, GPS-based remote locking and tracking, data and diagnostic functions, over-the-air updates and a coordinated smartphone app. It will initially launch in the US before appearing in other global markets. The Drgnfly will launch at a price of $2,800, including a two-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

Vinfast confirmed last month that it was planning to do so in the US Switch to a merchant model, with franchise dealers responsible for repairs, maintenance and parts support of the vehicles sold. Given the wide range of models proposed at these debuts at CES, it seems like there will soon be a lot more to get excited about.
