It took four years, which is two years late, but this Tesla Cybertruck has finally arrived with a higher price and a shorter range than originally promised.
On Thursday, Tesla held a delivery event where some of the details surrounding the Tesla Cybertruck were explained and the first trucks were handed over to customers.
Some details are now confirmed, while many others still require answers.
Tesla’s website features three trucks, but each states that prices and range are an estimate.
Tesla Cybertruck
Delivery of the base model with rear-wheel drive, presumably with a single motor, will take place in 2025 and will cost an estimated $60,990, far more than the $40,000 originally quoted by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, although it is unclear whether that will be A lower-end model will be added in the future. Tesla’s website lists this model as having an estimated range of 250 miles, a 0-60 mph time of 6.5 seconds, a top speed of 112 mph, and a towing capacity of 7,500 pounds.
Tesla’s website says the all-wheel-drive Cybertruck, which will likely use a dual-motor powertrain, will arrive in customer hands in 2024 for $79,990 and will have an estimated range of 340 miles. The company says the all-wheel drive model will produce 600 hp and 7,435 lb-ft of torque, the latter likely after torque multiplication in the powertrain. Weighing 6,603 pounds, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, reach a top speed of 180 mph, and tow up to 11,000 pounds.
The top model, which Tesla calls Cyberbeast, will cost $99,990 and delivery is scheduled for 2024. Tesla’s website states that this model will have an estimated range of 320 miles, accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, reach a top speed of 130 mph, and produce 845 horsepower and 10,296 lb. ft of torque (again, probably multiplied).
Tesla Cybertruck
Tesla’s website says a range extender will increase the range of the Cyberbeast to 440 miles and the all-wheel drive model to 470 miles. It is an additional battery that is about the size of a toolbox and fits at the back of the cab. It’s unclear how much the range extender package will cost and what negative impact it will have on towing and payload capacity. No truck has been announced with the originally stated range of 500 miles.
CEO Elon Musk noted random facts and figures during the delivery event without qualifying or quantifying them. Those numbers included a quarter-mile time of under 11 seconds and a payload of up to 2,500 pounds.
Tesla Cybertruck
According to Tesla’s website, the Cybertruck is 95 inches wide, 223.7 inches long and 70.5 inches high.
Musk said the composite bed is 6 feet long and 4 feet wide. Tesla’s website says the bed and cabin have 120-volt and 240-volt outlets with outputs up to 11.5 kW and 65-watt UCB-C ports. It’s unclear how many outlets there are in the cabin, but one photo shows two 120-volt outlets and one 240-volt outlet. The Cybertruck can also reportedly power a home, but this was not elaborated upon.
The truck has a drag coefficient of 0.335 and certain unspecified models ride on 35-inch all-terrain tires with 20-inch wheels. Tesla’s website says the Cybertruck offers 67 cubic feet of space in the cargo area under the tonneau cover and 54 cubic feet of storage space in the cab with the second row of seats folded up.
Musk said during the delivery presentation that the Cybertruck has up to 17 inches of ground clearance thanks to a four-corner air suspension system paired with adaptive dampers. Tesla’s website details that the 17-inch ground clearance is in extraction mode. However, it is unclear whether all trucks have this system and what different driving modes it offers in terms of ground clearance.
According to Musk, the Cybertruck features locking differentials and torque vectoring.
According to the website, the Cybertruck can restore up to 136 miles of range in 15 minutes using a fast charger with a maximum charging power of 250 kW.
Tesla Cybertruck
The Cybertruck features a steer-by-wire system and rear-wheel steering that allows for a shorter turning radius than a Model X. The Model X’s turning radius is 20.4 feet. It is unknown which Cybertruck models have rear-wheel steering or whether it is standard.
Musk claimed the Cybertruck had higher torsional rigidity than a McLaren P1. “If you ever argue with another car, you will win,” Musk said.
The glass is said to be rock-resistant, which prevents stone chips but also makes the interior quieter, according to Musk. Tesla’s website claims the glass can withstand the impact of a 70 mph baseball or Class 4 hail.
Musk proudly showed a video of a Tommy Gun firing bullets into the side of a Cybertruck without any metal penetrating. It’s unclear how far from the truck the person who fired the weapon was, but Musk tweeted that the “doors are bulletproof to .45″ and 9mm.”
The Cybertruck features an 18.5-inch touchscreen on the dashboard and a 9.4-inch touchscreen for rear passengers. The website shows a 15-speaker audio system, but it’s unclear whether this or the rear window will be standard.

Tesla has developed accessories for the Cybertruck, including a bed-mounted tent for camping and a roof-mounted light bar that can shine light up to 500 meters.

Tesla has not disclosed the size or specifications of the battery packs, nor has it specified which battery cells it is using in the Cybertrucks that roll off the assembly line. It’s unclear how many Cybertrucks Tesla has built or delivered.
Production of the Cybertruck began in July at the Tesla factory near Austin, Texas. In the same month Final testing and certification begansaid Tesla.
