Rolls-Royce Dawn buying guide

If I have repeatedly purchased a particular make/model of a car, that means I love it.

I do not like it, Love it.

The Dawn is perhaps the most obvious example of this statement, as I owned almost half a dozen at this point (May 2023). but what should I say?

For me, find a hotter, more prestigious convertible that will fit in any garage and will break neck when lowered tastefully and paired with some OEM+ style wheels.

You can’t, and until you can, I’ll most likely always have a Dawn in my garage.

With summer approaching, now is the time to start thinking about that convertible you never knew you needed. So read on if you want to know if the Rolls Royce Dawn is the right car for you.

Experience behind the wheel

The Dawn is the perfect stunt car, especially with a few small modifications here and there like a lowered suspension and a great set of wheels (no bigger than 24 please and make sure to keep the style more OEM+, we are happy to advise you on preferred styles the FB group).

No, it’s not super loud or super fast like a 458, 570S or Huracan. And no, it’s not as nimble or easy to drive as a G63 or a Bentayga. But it’s just the ideal place where the whole family has room to go out, drive and drink coffee, and if you’re as brave and a little crazy as me, it could be your daily companion.

The suspension on all Rolls models today is known for feeling like riding on a cloud, and that’s true on the Dawn too, and with the top down you could easily imagine taking the Spirit of Ecstasy to the skies float yourself.

This makes your ride very comfortable, but don’t forget that under the hood there is a twin-turbo V12 engine capable of producing 563 horsepower. This makes maneuvering in and out of traffic extremely easy, but the size is still obvious so it’s a bit of a boating experience, but hey, who wouldn’t want to have their very own yacht?

Rolls Royce Dawn General problems

Many of the problems that plague the Dawn also affect the other Rolls-Royce models. And funnily enough, BMWs too… Hint, hint, nudge, nudge.

If you’re looking to get your own Rolls Royce Dawn, anything under the 2020 model year range (yes, even the 2019s) may not be covered by a warranty. Rolls Royce offers a 4-year/unlimited mile base and powertrain warranty.

This means that a PPI is more necessary than ever. The few hundred dollars you spend on this pre-purchase inspection could make all the difference, saving you time, headaches and thousands of dollars in the long run.

The most common problems you will experience with the Dawn are spark plug problems, engine oil level monitoring, water leaks, suspension problems, Spirit of Ecstasy engine problems, door opening motors and engine mounts problems. Be aware of these issues and place special emphasis on addressing these problem areas in any business that runs your PPI.

Also, I wanted to add this to my constant desire to make you understand that this is how a PPI should be mandatoryno “maybes” in any car purchase you make…always, always, ALWAYS ask for photos of the inside, outside, underneath and any problem areas of the car.

Most of the time you are not on site and want to understand the problem better, and photos help with that (plus you can take the photos to your local trusted mechanic to get their feedback on the problem and even get a price before you do the Pull the trigger to further hedge your bet.

Rolls Royce Dawn Operating/maintenance costs

This is a Rolls Royce. No Kia or Hyundai. Don’t overwhelm your service windows. Whether it’s a Ferrari or a Rolls Royce, these cars are high-performance examples of cars and must be treated as such.

The cars that give you the least headaches are the ones that have been best maintained before they get to you, and will continue to be that way throughout your ownership if you hold up your end of the bargain.

These cars have a bit of weight; After all, these are Section 179 hacks. again… wink wink nudge nudge. So make sure the suspension, steering, etc. feel good because things can go very wrong very quickly and are very expensive to repair.

The other aspects of ownership will most likely be general wear and tear the more miles you put on your Dawn. Changing the oil is relatively easy considering the relationship with BMW. So your trustworthy local mechanic who knows luxury and exotic cars (who you should be best friends with by now) should have no problem repairing and maintaining your car for relatively little money.

Unlike the several thousand dollar bills that Rolls hands you as you leave his posh looking dealership with free coffee and water to make you feel better about being completely scammed.

Additionally, if you opt for aftermarket modifications like wheels and a camber, be prepared to struggle with your Dawn for a while. The standard suspension of a Rolls Royce, especially the newer models, is finely tuned at the factory. So if you experiment, drop your car, and put larger than original size wheels on your car, you will encounter some bias.

I once battled my Black Badge Ghost for over two hours because every time we readjusted each wheel’s suspension I drove about 500 feet to stabilize it and one side was off by half an inch. It sounds like a small measurement, but when looking for the perfect specification, it’s a big deal.

Rolls Royce Dawn Reduce differences

The Rolls Royce Dawn is the highest trim level of its make/model/class.

Preferably Rolls Royce Dawn Buy

The 16-17 Rolls Royce Dawn will of course be cheaper and offer the normal hacker more options. If your budget is larger and you are well versed in the hacking methodology, go for the 2nd generation, i.e. the 2019 model series and above.

When it comes to technical data and colors, my main advice is: the more objective, the better. A good example is that teak (lighter color) is not for everyone and does not suit every interior. The dark, almost black wood is preferred, but even more so, the Piano Black interior is by far the most popular across most specifications.

Other great options for your Dawn include the custom interior and exterior options. The Lambswool floor mats, Ultimate Touring Package, Interior Detailing Package, Driver Assistance Package 3, contrast seat piping and of course you need to make sure both umbrellas come with the Dawn you’re looking at – this is important!

Diploma

I’d like to say my word is worth its weight in gold, but I’m just a poor Persian trying to make a living. But when it comes to cars, I’m pretty confident when I speak, and even more so when I write. With this buying guide and my ownership history, you can be confident that the Dawn has both ECH Hackability approval and, even better, PJ Persian status.
