Five legendary red Ferraris to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s

RM Sotheby’s is pleased to offer five legendary Ferraris at its upcoming auction. DARE TO DREAM COLLECTION The auction is scheduled to take place from May 31 to June 1. These cars, known by enthusiasts as the “Big Five,” are considered by many to be the most sought-after production vehicles from Maranello.

1985 Ferrari 288 GTO – Estimate: $3,750,000 – $4,000,000

The Ferrari 288 GTOa limited-edition high-performance car, was Ferrari’s top-of-the-range model in the mid-1980s. It was based on the 308, but had a more powerful engine, racing parts and a wider body. Only 272 examples were built, making them valuable collector’s items today.

This particular 288 GTO was owned by Italian businessman Emilio Gnutti and later golfer Ian Poulter. It has been well maintained and joined the Dare To Dream Collection in 2015 before undergoing a mechanical restoration. It is offered with 26,617 km (16,539 miles) on the clock.

1990 Ferrari F40 – Estimate: $2,750,000 – $3,250,000

The Ferrari F40Introduced in 1987, it was a road-legal racing car built to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary. It was based on the 288 GTO Evoluzione, but lacked the luxury needed for pure driving pleasure. The aluminum, carbon fiber and Kevlar body was lightweight and housed a powerful twin-turbocharged V8 engine. With a top speed of 323 km/h, the F40 was the fastest car in the world at the time.

This particular F40 is one of the most sought-after versions as it lacks the catalytic converters and adjustable suspension that were fitted to later models. It has only 1,606 kilometres on the clock and has been meticulously maintained by specialists. This exceptionally well-preserved “no cat, no adjustment” F40 is a prime example of Ferrari’s legendary supercar from the 1990s.

1996 Ferrari F50 – Estimate: $3,800,000 – $4,500,000

The Ferrari F50 is a head-turning hypercar built from 1995 to 1997. It combined the classic look of the 1950s with cutting-edge racing technology. The lightweight car had a removable soft top or a hard top that gave the driver the feeling of driving in the open air or enjoying a more enclosed ride. A powerful V12 engine propelled the F50 from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. It had racing brakes and a luxurious interior with leather seats and air conditioning.

Only 349 F50s were made, making them highly sought-after collectors’ items today. This particular F50 is a well-preserved European-spec car with just 12,993 miles on the clock. It comes with its original hardtop, softtop, tools and owner’s manuals.

2003 Ferrari 488 GTB – Estimate: $3,750,000 – $4,250,000

The Ferrari 488 GTB is one of the first vehicles delivered in the USA and debuted at the 2003 Cavallino Classic. It is painted in classic red with black leather interior and was originally owned by the prominent Caiola family.

The car has only 3,000 miles on the clock and has been meticulously maintained throughout its life. Recent services include a new windscreen, new oil pump, new water pump and new suspension components. It also comes with a matching luggage kit, an extra set of wheels and tires and all original paperwork.

2015 Ferrari LaFerrari – Estimate: $3,850,000 – $4,250,000

The FerrariIntroduced in 2013, it lives up to its name – “The Ferrari”. This aerodynamically shaped car with a Formula 1-inspired cockpit features a powerful hybrid engine. The LaFerrari features a lightweight carbon fiber tub, making it lower and more stable than previous models. Only 499 coupes were produced, making them a sought-after collector’s item.

A mid-mounted V12 engine delivers incredible horsepower, while an electric motor provides additional power and improves acceleration. Together, they propel the LaFerrari from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds.

This particular LaFerrari in red with black leather interior is a rare find. It has only 1,766 miles on the clock and has been meticulously maintained by authorized Ferrari dealers. It also comes with a factory charger, luggage and tools.

Each of these vehicles represents a significant chapter in Ferrari’s illustrious past. Owning one of these cars would be like holding a key to the brand’s heritage, a dream come true for any collector.
