The new McLaren GTS

McLaren introduces its new GTS as a replacement for the GT. The super-lightweight GTS is designed to delight drivers who demand the dynamic excellence and driving pleasure of a McLaren, as well as the ride comfort, refinement and luggage space for routine driving and longer journeys.

“The new McLaren GTS offers an unrivaled blend of McLaren driving dynamics and performance, with refinement and practicality. If you want a true supercar driving experience, the GTS offers just that; If you want to relax on a longer trip or with luggage for a weekend getaway, the GTS is an ideal companion. This is a car that stays true to McLaren’s racing DNA but has multiple levels of performance.” Michael Leiters, CEO, McLaren Automotive

The new GTS retains McLaren’s core attractions: beautiful yet functional design, class-leading power-to-weight ratio – enabled by a lightweight carbon fiber construction with a unique monocoque chassis – and unrivaled driving dynamics, but is also visually even more powerful and offers more performance and a wider range of exterior options – and interior fittings.

The GT’s elegant exterior lines continue to form the basis of the vehicle’s aerodynamic package and profile, but new visual enhancements ensure the GTS has an even more confident stance. At the front of the GTS, the signature “Hammerhead” design has been updated with a new lower front bumper section. This area of the vehicle features redesigned air intakes that are more pronounced and feature wider air intakes to direct more air into the vehicle’s radiator system. The front intake air fins can be optionally finished in gloss exposed carbon fiber, reflecting McLaren’s racing DNA and giving the GTS a more aggressive look. On the rear fenders there are new, higher air scoops – also available in glossy carbon fiber – on the shoulders of the vehicle. Like the redesigned front end, the improvements to the rear fenders are functional and allow for better airflow into the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

The GTS is based on the MonoCell II-T carbon fiber monocoque chassis, which features a strong, ultralight construction and the rigidity required of a mid-engined McLaren supercar. The standard composite roof is made from recycled carbon fiber, one of many weight-saving solutions in the GTS’s design that contribute to optimal vehicle performance and dynamics. These decisions are instrumental in ensuring that the GTS delivers an exciting lightweight supercar driving experience without compromising ride quality or introducing unnecessary noise, harshness and vibration.

At just 3,351 pounds (DIN), the GTS is the lightest car in its class and boasts the best power-to-weight ratio in its segment of 412 horsepower per ton. The power of the M840TE 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine has been increased to 626 hp at 7,500 rpm. The additional 14 horsepower comes from increased crankshaft torque made possible by more aggressive combustion phasing and revised ignition timing. A launch control function is standard; When activated, the GTS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in just 8.9 seconds. The GTS’s top speed is 203 miles per hour.

The GTS features a seven-speed SSG transmission which, in standard comfort mode, delivers smooth, seamless and quick shifts from start-up, ensuring relaxed yet brisk acceleration. Additionally, a driver can enhance their supercar experience via the Active Dynamics Panel with two additional driving modes – Sport and Track. Sport adds more drama and urgency, with momentary spark cut technology enabling quicker and more aggressive gear changes. Track mode takes this to an even higher level, maximizing the transmission’s performance with minimal loss of torque between shifts. Manual control of gear changes is possible in any driving mode using the shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel.

In keeping with the GTS’s inherent practicality, an interior is designed to combine the vehicle’s level of performance with refined and luxurious space. It provides a comfortable interior for long-distance journeys while providing a platform from which the driver can take full advantage of the vehicle’s outstanding dynamic capabilities.

The refined, high-quality interior utilizes a mix of select materials to create an ambience of performance and luxury. Machine-polished and knurled aluminum switches and controls are featured throughout the interior, including for the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, alongside gloss black bezels for the infotainment screen, center console gear selector, air vent housings and window switches. Optional optical carbon fiber packages include a satin carbon finish steering wheel trim, extended paddle shifters and interior surrounds, as well as sill trims with McLaren branding.

The comfort seats of the GTS are covered with nappa leather as standard and have a leather steering wheel. The new Performance and TechLux interior concepts ensure a refreshed design. The performance equipment is sporty, elegant and technical. The seats are upholstered in Softgrain Aniline leather and Alcantara© in Jet Black or Barolo and have contrasting piping. The performance also includes electrically adjustable, heated memory comfort seats. The new TechLux interior concept embodies classic elegance, but with a modern McLaren touch. A choice of softgrain aniline leather interiors offer sophisticated color accents with a unique and newly introduced double piping pattern on the seats.

In addition to an expanded and refreshed range of exterior colors with new options such as Mantis Green, Tanzanite Blue and Ice White, there is a new color available from launch that is exclusive to the GTS: Lava Grey. This metallic finish contains a shimmering red spot that catches the light, creating a distinctive effect that sets it apart from other grays.

Other additions include a new 10-spoke turbine alloy forged wheel, available in Silver, High Gloss Black, High Gloss Black with Diamond Cut Effect and Orum. The standard wheel for the GTS is a 10-twin-spoke forged alloy wheel, which, in addition to an exclusive tungsten option, is also available in silver, high-gloss black or high-gloss diamond-cut black. Both wheel designs can be combined with new optional titanium wheel bolts that are 35 percent lighter than the standard bolts, reducing unsprung weight. McLaren’s technical partner Pirelli supplies P ZERO™ tires, developed specifically for the GTS, offering high performance and grip while maintaining refinement.
