The 2024 Porsche Panamera starts at $101,550 and offers up to 670 horsepower

Porsche unveiled the third generation of its Panamera nameplate on Friday.

It’s set to go on sale in the US next spring as a 2024 model, and Porsche has confirmed a starting price of $101,550, including a $1,650 destination charge.

This price is for a base rear-wheel-drive Panamera with a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 producing 348 horsepower. All-wheel drive is available for an additional $7,000. In any case, expect 0-60 mph acceleration in five seconds or less and a top speed approaching 170 mph.

Porsche has also announced a Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid variant that will be available closer to launch next year. Pricing for this grade has not yet been announced, but Porsche has confirmed peak power of 670 hp, produced by a newly developed twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and a single electric motor with an integrated standard 8-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Owners of this class can enjoy 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 310 mph.

More powertrain options will follow, with Porsche confirming there will be up to four different plug-in hybrids depending on the market. All will be equipped with a 25.9 kWh battery, which should result in a longer electric range than is possible with this current Panamera plug-in hybrids which use a 17.9 kWh battery that has an electric range of 20 miles, according to the EPA. All plug-in hybrids, including the Turbo E-Hybrid, will also use the same transmission-integrated electric motor with an output of 187 hp.

Another key focus in terms of performance was the suspension department. As standard, the entire range is equipped with air suspension with double valve dampers, a damper design that allows adjustment of rebound and compression. This means a wider range of performance in terms of comfort and driving control.

Active dampers will be available for plug-in hybrid models. According to Porsche, the system is able to keep the car flat even during hard acceleration, braking and steering. This happens because the car leans forward when accelerating or leans backward when braking to balance the opposing forces. And when cornering, the car tends to lean into the corner, just like a motorcyclist would.

To further improve handling, rear-wheel steering is offered, which is available as standard or as an option depending on the trim level.

The platform is an updated version of the Volkswagen Group’s MSB platform, which was first used in the current Panamera. As a result, the new Panamera represents more of a major update to the previous Panamera than a true redesign, and this is reflected in the evolutionary design changes that have been implemented.

The biggest stylistic departure from the previous model are the new headlights. They appear larger and have a more square shape. They also come with Matrix LED technology as standard. The length of the car is 198.9 inches, which is the same as the previous generation.

Another style change is the use of gray accents on the Turbo E-Hybrid. The gray color, known as Turbonite, will be used on all future Turbo models to differentiate them from the rest of the fleet. The gray accent will even extend to Porsche’s famous crest. Buyers of the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid can also optionally choose a set of central locking wheels.

Inside, the dashboard features a similar design to the one introduced in the update Cayenne SUV 2024, in which the gear selector switch is mounted on the steering column. There’s a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster that includes two touchscreen displays, one in the center of the dashboard and serving as an infotainment hub and the second facing the passenger and serving primarily as a media hub. A fourth screen faces rear passengers at the foot of the center console and controls functions such as media, navigation and ambient lighting. It is not clear whether this is a standard feature or an available feature. A head-up display has been confirmed by Porsche as an available item.

Production of the Panamera takes place exclusively at the Porsche factory in Leipzig. Porsche said it has sold more than 385,000 Panameras since introducing the nameplate in 2009.

Porsche has only shown one hatchback body style. The previous Panamera is also available as a station wagon, which Porsche calls the Sport Turismo. It is not clear whether this option will be repeated for the third-generation Panamera.
