2025 Maserati GranCabrio Folgore debuts as an electric Grand Touring

The Maserati Gran Turismo has gained a sibling and has thus beaten the competition in the electric convertible market segment.

On Monday, the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore debuted with an electric powertrain, stunning good looks and a soft top. When it arrives in the US in the fourth quarter, it will cost more than $200,000.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore has a soft top

The GranCabrio Folgore looks like GranTurismo Folgore with the tip cut off. The design changes compared to the previous model are subtle, like the GranTurismo. The GranCabrio Folgore features the same long hood, short rear deck and swollen fenders as the coupe. Like the coupe, it also features a low ride height on staggered 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear. The sleek oval grille is a modernized version of the brand’s iconic front fascia, with the trident emblem displayed large and proud.

The GranCabrio has a fabric top that can be opened in 14 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Closing the top by pressing a button on the center console takes 16 seconds. The entire operation can also be done via gesture control by swiping and holding left or right on the touchscreen. With the top down, the trunk holds 5.3 cubic feet of material, but with the top down the volume shrinks to 4.0 cubic feet.

Occupants stay warm or cool while driving with the top down thanks to standard neck warmers that blow warm air directly onto the leather front seat seats. The airflow is adjustable and has three speeds. An optional wind stopper is available to limit the airflow around the cabin.

The interior is digitized and features a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen located above an 8.8-inch screen that houses the climate controls. The whole thing is housed in a leather-lined interior with knurled trim and a clock as a dashboard cover.

Maserati GranCabrio Folgore runs on a triple engine

Maserati uses silicon carbide electric motors and inverters developed for Formula E. Each GranCabrio Folgore is powered by three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear, each producing 300 kW (402 hp). Overall, the total output is said to be over 1,200 hp, but in reality it is limited to 760 hp due to the inverters.

The motors are powered by a 92.5 kWh (83.0 kWh usable) T-shaped battery housed in the powertrain tunnel and behind the rear seats. This all runs on an 800-volt electrical architecture that can charge the battery from 20 to 80% in 18 minutes. The EPA ratings are not certified, but Maserati expects a range of about 250 miles. The car has a 50:50 weight distribution.

The braking system does not offer a one-pedal driving mode, but the system can regenerate energy at up to 0.65 g

Top speed is 180 mph, which is lower than the GranTurismo Folgore coupe sibling’s 199 mph top speed. Maserati claims 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2.8 seconds, which is a hair slower than the coupe’s 2.7 seconds. Four driving modes are available, including Max-Range, GT, Sport and Corsa. The Corsa allows drivers to adjust the rear torque vectoring function separately from the traction control levels. It’s all digital as there is no mechanical connection.

Since there is no gasoline engine under the hood, Maserati synthesizes the sounds of the inverter and electric motors and then amplifies them in the interior.
