We present the press release for Rocky Mountain Instinct – Mountain Bike 2024

The latest version of Rocky’s shred-everything trail bike, the Instinct, is here! Standout innovations include internal storage on carbon models, optimized geometry that is taller and flatter, more adjustment points than before and new kinematics that provide a highly efficient pedaling platform with bottomless grip on descents and the bike rides as if it were it had more than 140m path.

We’re currently doing a long-term review of the Instinct, and so far the bike has delivered on its promised versatility! There are lots of adjustment options, so it should be fun to figure out which setup best suits our style and terrain. Stay tuned for a full review in the spring and keep scrolling below for more details.

Looking for a quiver killer? We’ll cover you. Designed to thrive on technical trails but still allows you to go the distance and conquer the climbs. We’ve updated the frame features, geometry and suspension kinematics to ensure you feel confident through the highs, lows and everything in between. Trust your instincts.

About the launch film: Former Olympian and athlete Sam Schultz and photographer Margus Riga crossed paths a few years ago and bonded over their love of multi-day mountain bike adventures. In 2022, they teamed up for a photo shoot in the Rocky Mountains and spent three days in the rugged and remote Chilcotin Ranges. During this trip, Sam quickly learned what it means to get Riga – to underestimate the difficulty of an adventure with the knowledge that your friends will probably survive anyway.

A year later, Sam and Margus have a new assignment, this time in Toby Creek, Invermere. In search of yellow larches, beautiful backdrops and sunsets, the team explores the area in search of the perfect shots. This time Sam wasn’t planning on getting Riga…

What characterizes the new instinct?

  • Refined geometry: We refined the reach, steepened the seat tube angle and lengthened the chainstays.
  • Complete adjustability: Designed with adjustable frame features to suit all riders and riding styles. This is our most versatile platform.
  • Size specific melody: Ensures riders of all sizes receive the correct balance of compliance on small bumps, support in the middle and at the end of the stroke Progressivity. Our design team makes customized shock tunes based on real models worldwide field tests and adapts each tune to specific frame sizes.
  • Reach-adjust headset: Optimize your ride with center and +/- 5mm offset options.
  • Generous space for long dropper posts: Shorter seat tube lengths for better dropper seat post installation.

Frame details

RIDE-4™ adjustment system

Allows the rider to quickly fine-tune their geometry and suspension with a single Allen key. Four configurations are possible thanks to a rotating chip on each side.

Four positions compared to nine on the previous Instinct should allow for an easier setup and tuning process.

Two position rear axle

The Two-Position Axle adjustment system allows the rider to choose a chainstay length that better suits their needs. Removing the derailleur hanger on the drive side chip requires a single 8mm Allen key, while the non-drive side chip can be removed by hand. Note that due to their unique function, gear derailleurs are only compatible in the longest position.

There is a 10mm difference between axle positions.

PenaltyBox™ 2.0

The latest Instinct Carbon models now feature our new PenaltyBox downtube storage, which provides space for a water bottle with the cage installed. It includes a custom storage solution for a hose and tools, as well as a concealed AirTag/Tile compartment.
