Making the Camry a full hybrid is a big step.
In addition to shifting preferences toward SUVs and pickups, the Camry has maintained its position as the best-selling car in the U.S. for decades. The move to full hybrid says a lot about Toyota’s confidence in its hybrid system and the role it will play in the immediate future.
Currently, the outgoing Toyota Camry is firmly clinging to the mass market hook. It was the last affordable midsize sedan to feature a V6 engine, so this move marks a particularly abrupt change. But with this redesign, you can get the new 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid with all-wheel drive for the first time.

In the 2025 Camry, Toyota is installing the fifth generation of its planetary gear hybrid system called THS 5, which combines a 2.5-liter inline-four engine with two electric motors and produces a total of 225 hp. Four-wheel drive is achieved on some Camry models by installing a third motor that drives only the rear wheels, as Toyota does on versions of the Prius, Corolla and many other models in the lineup.
Toyota isn’t giving any indication yet what the EPA fuel economy might be for the 2025 Camry, but it needs to land close to that Honda Accord Hybrid at up to 48 mpg combined and the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid at up to 52 mpg combined. The current 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid achieves 52 mpg combined. However, it’s safe to assume that the Camry will still have a number of driving modes, including one mpg-increasing Eco mode.

Toyota claims the new sedan has a sleeker, more athletic look, and if you limit the frame to the front end, that may well be the impression. A thinner, more horizontal orientation gives the front a clear leading edge and a wider look, with thin LED lamps accentuating the impression. However, when looking at the vehicle as a whole, large parts of the profile and side design appear to be very close to a carryover, even if this is not the case according to the images provided by Toyota.
The 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid is offered in four different trim levels. Base LE versions add dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air vents, a smart key system, bi-LED projector headlights, a 7.0-inch instrument cluster and an 8.0-inch touchscreen interface with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility as well as wireless phone charging and five USB ports. Mid-range SE versions get 18-inch alloy wheels (compared to 16-inch alloy wheels on the base model), faux suede seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power driver’s seat, aluminum sport pedals and a rear spoiler. Dual exhaust mufflers and a blacked-out grille.

All 2025 Camry models will come with a blind-spot monitor and a rear cross-traffic alert system, as part of an expanded package of active safety features that already includes automatic emergency braking and eight airbags. The Camry XLE and XSE hybrid models feature a front traffic jam and cross-traffic system, a surround-view camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.
Toyota says it has changed the shape and density of the seat cushions in the 2025 Camry Hybrid – with the length of the welcome cushion. It also claims to have revised the braking system and suspension for “balanced handling and comfort.” The Camry’s suspension continues to feature struts at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear, with a sport-tuned version in the SE and XSE.

The Camry hasn’t received a full redesign since the 2018 model year. This redesigned Camry has a new front end and revised powertrains, but it doesn’t seem like the entire vehicle is quite as new as the Camry’s past. Toyota has gradually made good on a promise first made about two decades ago: to democratize the hybrid system and make it widespread across the automaker’s lineup. While pricing may be the deciding factor in whether this sedan can maintain its sales leadership, so will how quickly Americans switch to plug-in models. Here it seems to be part of Toyota’s bet a slower transition to electric vehicleswhile fuel consumption is definitely a priority.
The 2025 Toyota Camry will continue to be built in the US and is expected to arrive in dealers in spring 2024.
