Verstappen is still unbeatable

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen clinched the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship title following the Qatar Grand Prix in October, meaning the Dutch youngster has now won three titles in a row.

What’s impressive is that he has set two F1 records this season. After last weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, he has won 17 races this season, surpassing his own record of 15 last season. He also managed to score ten wins in a row this season, surpassing the previous record of nine wins set by Sebastian Vettel in 2013, who also drove for Red Bull.

Verstappen’s victory in Brazil was the 52nd of his career. Only Vettel (53), Michael Schumacher (91) and Lewis Hamilton (103) are ahead of him, and considering Verstappen is only 26 years old, he still has plenty of time to reach the top.

Verstappen’s massive winning record and the efforts of his teammate Sergio Perez mean Red Bull Racing have also taken home the 2023 constructors’ title. Red Bull clinched the title in September after the Japanese Grand Prix.

Perez, along with Verstappen, was unable to dominate the rest of the field. He has shown inconsistent performance this season, although he managed to maintain second place in the Drivers’ Championship. Although Perez showed potential early on, including winning two races, he was hampered by mishaps in qualifying in several rounds and a few crashes on race day, including at his home race, the Mexican Grand Prix, where he crashed on the first lap.

Aston Martin was a big surprise at the start of the season. Its star driver Fernando Alonso delivered good results. He was on the podium seven times, finishing third in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Miami and Brazil, and second in Monaco and the Netherlands.

McLaren is another surprise. After the last series of upgrades to his vehicles, the performance has been increased enormously. After failing to make any progress in the first half of the season, drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were at the forefront in the final races and were on the podium several times.

Piastri was the most successful rookie driver this season. He has scored 83 points, putting him ahead of some more experienced drivers such as Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon and Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas. The other rookies are Williams’ Logan Sargeant and AlphaTauri’s Nyck de Vries, although de Vries is no longer in Formula 1 as AlphaTauri replaced him with more experienced driver Daniel Ricciardo in July for the remainder of the season. Ricciardo missed several races due to a wrist injury sustained in a training accident. He was replaced by reserve driver Liam Lawson, who impressed in every outing, including scoring a few points. However, at the United States Grand Prix in October, Ricciardo returned to the starting grid.
