The 149-mile electric Mini returns to U.S. cities for $34,095

Fiat has announced that the 2024 500e will start at $34,095 in the US, including the mandatory $1,595 destination charge, and that it will be available at US dealers – with a focus on urban ones – from the first quarter of 2024 areas.

In U.S. trim, the 500e delivers 118 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque from its single permanent magnet motor and features a 42 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) lithium-ion battery pack. All are essentially identical figures to the European market model that first shipped three years ago.

The Fiat 500e weighs just over 3,000 pounds – lightweight for an electric vehicle, and its battery pack weighs a measly 649 pounds. Minimizing the amount of batteries not only helps reduce the carbon footprint and reduce dependence on previous raw materials; It should also lead to a more nimble-driving small car.

Charge your Fiat 500e: quickly at home

The relatively small battery also pays off when quickly charging with level 2 AC power at home or at work. According to Fiat, the 500e can be charged in just four hours and 15 minutes using 240 volts and 48 amps. DC fast charging on the road takes 35 minutes from 0 to 80% at a peak power of 85 kW; Since 80% equates to a range of less than 120 miles, it’s clearly designed as a city commuter rather than a road trip machine.

Fiat doesn’t quote a 0-60mph time for the US 500e, but at the time of its launch it said the European version (with similar specs) got to 60mph in 9.0 seconds.

Instead, city parking is its strength, with its super-short profile, once again seemingly great outward visibility, and a 31.5-foot turning circle. The 500e is again a small car by US standards. It is almost 143.0 inches long, about 74.1 inches wide and 66.3 inches high, and has a wheelbase of 91.4 inches. Ground clearance is listed as less than 4.5 inches. So don’t try to take one of them to the starting point.

According to the technical data, the 500e is a four-person vehicle. But the back seat is also really compact, and the cargo space behind the rear seatbacks is just 7.5 cubic feet.

Initially, the 500e will be available in a single trim level with a red exterior and black interior fabric with red stitching, aptly named “Red.” The 500e Red also features automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, front armrests, a 50/50-split folding rear seat, rain-sensing wipers and 17-inch alloy wheels. Instruments and a trip computer are housed on a 7.0-inch display, while there’s a wireless charging pad and a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, satellite radio and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Normal, Range and Sherpa modes offer calibrations for different driving styles, with Range mode increasing regenerative braking for single-pedal driving and Sherpa mode being an environmentally focused mode that increases the top speed to 80km /h is limited and the maximum power under all conditions is reduced to approx. 77 hp at full throttle.

Why is the Fiat 500e back now?

It was always going to be a bit of a mystery when the brand decided not to bring the second generation 500e to the US. Fiat introduced this generation of the 500e Fiat 500e for Europe in March 2020 – as part of this retro-style city car’s first full redesign since 2007 – and at that point the brand had no plans to bring it back to the US

The first generation Fiat 500e wasn’t even sold in Fiat’s native Italy. It was only offered in California and Oregon and was sold in the 2013-2019 model years. Yes, the small electric car that started out as a compliance car to enable more profitable trucks had become known for its performance favorable rental contracts– just $49 per month in 2016. And it was such a big loss-maker that Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne discouraged people from buying it at the time. But the Driving fun with the Fiat 500e had also become a toy that people with far more expensive tastes (and wallets) used to go to town.

Last year, Stellantis told Green Car Reports that this time the The mission of the Fiat 500efor all 50 states, is simple: experiment with selling electric vehicles ahead of other high-stakes models, like the upcoming Ram 1500 REV electric truck and the Dodge electric muscle car.

This time, Fiat doesn’t plan to offer big discounts on the 500e, as every sale in the US will mean one less sale in Europe.

Charging and charity included

At least for this first year and for this model, Fiat is sweetening the deal, including the choice of a wallbox charger for the home or charging credit via the company’s Free2Move Charge service, which bundles chargers from different networks.

Fiat says the automaker will make a donation for each of these Red Edition models “to support life-saving programs where injustice has allowed pandemics to thrive.”
