Porsche prices the Macan 4 at $80,450 and the Macan Turbo EV SUV at $106,950

The electric Porsche Macan already existed teased one last timebut it will finally make its U.S. debut as a 2024 model in the second half of 2024, the automaker confirmed Wednesday.

Although the EV versions of the SUV will be based on a different architecture, they will share the Macan name with the current range of petrol-powered SUVs. They differ in their model names – and their prices. According to Porsche, pricing for the Macan 4 with all-wheel drive will start at $80,450, while the sticker price for the Macan Turbo will start at $106,950. Both prices include destination charges.

Both electric Macans will have two engines and all-wheel drive. They differ in their performance: The Macan 4 models produce up to 402 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque in overboost mode (382 hp in continuous operation) and reach 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, according to Porsche. It promises that in overboost mode, the Macan Turbo will achieve a maximum output of 630 hp and 833 lb-ft (576 hp continuous) while accelerating to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. Top speeds are set at 136 and 161 miles per hour, respectively.

Macan Turbos will benefit from a standard electronically controlled torque vectoring system on the rear axle, while this feature will be available on the Macan 4. Like the Taycan, Porsche hasn’t included a one-pedal drive mode.

The Macan EV is designed to tow up to 4,409 pounds.

All Macan 4 and Macan Turbo SUVs also feature standard air suspension with adaptive dual-path dampers for better compression and rebound control. The electric Macans can also be ordered with rear-axle steering, which can move the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels within a range of up to 5 degrees to facilitate low-speed maneuvers – and then steer the rear wheel in the same direction Direction like the fronts at higher speeds for better stability. Wheel sizes range from 20 to 22 inches with offset tires.

Porsche Macan: Electric cars rely on charging technology

The electric Macans ride on a new platform design in collaboration with fellow VW brand Audi. The so-called PPE architecture is different from the J1 component set that underlies the Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT and is designed for higher production volumes. For the Macan, Porsche is using a lithium-ion battery with a gross capacity of 100 kWh, which corresponds to a usable energy storage capacity of 95 kWh. The rear motor is mounted behind the rear axle to save space – and the front motor sits behind the front axle, essentially making the Macan electric vehicles have both mid- and rear-mounted engines.

Porsche has designed an 800-volt charging system for the Macan, which peaks at an input power of 270 kW. When lower power charging is the only form available, the Macan 4 and Turbo can effectively split their battery pack in two, offering two 400-volt charging inputs that enable parallel charging. All in all, the Macan can charge from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes at top speed.

EPA range estimates have not been released, but the electric Macan will have an integrated 11 kW charger and a 6 kW battery preconditioning heater. Active aero features include active front cooling flaps and adaptive rear spoilers.

Porsche Macan: Electric and gasoline models should coexist

According to the numbers, the new electric Macan is 188.4 inches long and has a wheelbase of 113.9 inches. This will translate into modest increases in passenger traffic compared to the gasoline-powered model. The cargo space of about 18 cubic feet expands to up to 46.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Additionally, the front trunk holds 2.9 cubic feet.

Inside the Macan, the pixels are spread far and wide on a curved 12.6-inch touchscreen and an additional 10.9-inch display in front of the right passenger. An augmented reality head-up display will increase the information content to the point of saturation. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay add a voice-controlled in-car assistant for on-the-go connectivity.

The Macan 4 and Macan Turbo are offered in a single sloping roof body style and do not have a corresponding body style like Porsche offers with its Cayenne SUV and coupe. And while there are no plans to replace the current gasoline-powered Macan, Porsche officials say they will sell it as long as demand exists. That means at least a year Macan EV and gas models coexist, and potentially more so, particularly in markets outside of Europe and North America.

The Macan will share its PPE architecture with the upcoming one Audi Q6 E-Tron SUV. A second, larger electric SUV from Porsche, priced higher than the Cayenne, is expected to join its lineup within a few years electric 718 sports car arches.
