The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia hybrid SUV features 36 mpg and all-wheel drive

Toyota unveiled another new crossover SUV on Tuesday night, appearing to test how many ways the automaker can carve up what has become the heart of the American vehicle market.

The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia is a pure hybrid five-seater with all-wheel drive. The interior looks very spacious, and Toyota notes that the second-row seats fold flat to create a 6.5-foot-long cargo area. There, the Signia features a tonneau cover and an aluminum door sill as part of a rear deck “made for an active lifestyle.”

No specs have been released for the Signia yet, but it will likely be about the same length as the Toyota Crown sedan– 196 inches, or about the same as the Toyota Highlander, albeit with a more car-like profile and presentation. That would make it about the size of the Nissan Murano or Ford Edge, or a growing group of electric SUVs including the Chevrolet Blazer EV and coming Honda prologue.

Under the hood of all Crown Signia versions is a 2.5-liter inline-four as part of Toyota’s proven planetary gear-based hybrid system, which uses two motors at the front and adds a third motor for all-wheel drive at the rear wheels, exclusively for the Drive serves. Total system output is 243 horsepower, and Toyota says it will achieve 36 mpg combined on the EPA cycle.

Toyota says it preemptively transfers up to 80% of drive power to the Signia’s rear wheels when it starts or when it’s needed for traction; it also contributes to cornering stability.

It can tow up to 2,700 pounds. And like other Toyota hybrids, the Signia offers Normal, Eco and Sport modes, which allow for different calibrations for the powertrain.

There is no mention of it Hybrid Max system That’s available on the Crown sedan, but that’s fine. This other hybrid system, based on a traditional six-speed automatic transmission, sacrifices some fuel efficiency, refinement and handling for slightly quicker acceleration.

Based on the same TNGA-K platform that underpins the Crown sedan, the 2025 Toyota Crown Signia Hybrid features a slightly taller SUV-like body that likely promises the same level of handling and ride comfort. Toyota says the goal is to optimize noise, vibration and harshness, although the Crown sedan’s predecessor, the Avalon, was a difficult task. The Signia features an acoustic front window, a dashboard cover and additional sound insulation under the hood.

Offered in XLE and Limited trim levels, the Toyota Crown Signia comes standard with a power liftgate with kick sensor, as well as blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and a comprehensive package of active safety items including automatic emergency braking. XLE models have heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a six-speaker audio system. The Limited also features a fixed panoramic glass roof, leather seats with piping and quilted texture, heated and cooled front seats and heated rear seats, rain-sensing wipers, a digital key system, and front and rear parking sensors.

Apart from the roof, the wheel designs are likely to differentiate the two versions from the start. The XLE models feature 19-inch machined alloy wheels, while the Limited versions have large 21-inch dark gray alloy wheels.

Toyota announces that with the debut of the Crown Signia, 19 electrified models will be available for sale in the United States. An updated, fully hybrid 2025 Toyota Camry lineup was also unveiled in Los Angeles.
