More range, 18 minutes charging time, 0 to 60 in 2.3 seconds

Porsche seems to be keeping all the good things about its state-of-the-art Taycan electric sports car while focusing more on the important numbers: range, efficiency and acceleration.

The 2025 Porsche Taycan launches with a larger battery pack. Versions with Performance Battery Plus now have a gross capacity of 105 kWh – previously it was 93 kWh. Porsche hasn’t yet said what gain this will bring in terms of official EPA range ratings, but given all the efficiency-focused upgrades that come with the decision, the package’s 13% capacity gain is expected to be far greater.

Since its introduction for the 2020 model year, Porsche has indicated that the Taycan has the potential to take full advantage of the benefits of 350 kW DC Fast charging at 800 volts, but since its introduction it has been limited to around 270 kW. This was adjusted upwards for 2025 and, according to Porsche, “under ideal conditions” is a new maximum of 320 kW. According to Porsche, with a greatly expanded quick-charging window, the high charging power can be accessed for longer, even at low temperatures.

The Taycan 2025 charges a larger battery just as quickly

Despite the larger battery capacity, Porsche says the updated Taycan can be charged from 10 to 80% in the same 18 minutes as its predecessor. Plus, Porsche is finally including a 150kW DC/DC converter in all versions of the Taycan – meaning Taycan owners who missed an option on their vehicle aren’t limited to 50kW on older 400V hardware are.

In tests by Green Car Reports and other providers, Porsche has made it clear that the Taycan is a real hit Great electric vehicle for long road trips– with a real-world range that is often better than EPA range ratings suggest, plus very fast fast-charging times that can be replicated on the go even with the right hardware.

The Taycan now has a next-generation heat pump, revised thermal management, a modified pulse inverter with “optimized software” and a different all-wheel drive strategy. Some versions receive a rear motor that is up to 80 kW more powerful than previous versions, while maximum brake recovery (recuperation) has been increased by more than 30% to 400 kW.

To support the efficiency improvements these items bring, all versions now also include aerodynamically optimized wheels and tires with reduced rolling resistance.

Of course, acceleration and performance remain the strengths. The Sport Chrono package now includes a push-to-pass function that increases power by up to 70 kW (94 hp) for 10 seconds, depending on the version. This increases the performance of the top Taycan Turbo S to 938 hp and makes it the most powerful production Porsche of all time.

According to the automaker, the top-of-the-range Turbo S now accelerates to 60 miles per hour in 2.3 seconds, making it the fastest production Porsche of all time. Even the base version now accelerates to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

Refreshed appearance, more technology for the Taycan

The 2025 Porsche Taycan gets new, flatter headlights and redesigned taillights, but it doesn’t look much different than previous versions – a good thing for this flagship electric vehicle. A few new colors and interior improvements update the interior somewhat, with brushed aluminum door sills.

Inside, the revised Taycan 2025 gets an optimized user interface and a newly integrated mode switch on the steering wheel as well as a new in-car video function. According to Porsche, Apple CarPlay is “integrated even deeper into displays and functions.”

It’s probably better to drive and handle too. Adaptive air suspension is now included in all Taycan models, and all-wheel drive models can be optionally equipped with a Porsche Active Ride suspension, which takes into account the load on each individual wheel and counteracts pitching and rolling movements.

Part of a growing Porsche EV family

The Taycan 2025 was originally shown in early concept form in 2015 Mission E concept, and the Taycan 2020 went into series production at the end of 2019. Since launching the Taycan, Porsche has refined the technology and quickly focused on future electric vehicles as well as further developing the Taycan itself. For example the The 2023 Porsche Taycan has received a range increase for the entire product range, mainly through a series of incremental software improvements.

Many of the insights that Porsche gained from the Taycan will also flow into the future Macan EV and PPE platform. When it hits the market in the second half of the year, it will be the Taycan Porsche’s entry point for electric vehiclesat $80,450.
